RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – March 22, 2011 – ILS is pleased to announce that the Company helped to provide food and other non-perishables with the North Carolina School of School of Science and Mathematics.
In so doing ILS helped set a Guinness Book of World Record for the largest quantity food drive in 24 hours.
“In these particularly tough economic times, there are many people in our community in need. Our employees recognized this and were eager to assist those in need,” said Sam C. Tetlow, Chief Business Officer for ILS. “Our organization strives to make a difference through a variety of community service activities. We continually work to improve the lives of those around us every day, and it is particularly that on this day we helped set a world record.”
At 10:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 it was announced that the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics unofficially broke the Guinness Book of World Records™ for the largest 24-hour food drive at a single location with a total of 559,885 pounds of food. This amount has been sent to Guinness for certification. The former record was held by a church in Alberta, Canada with 509,147 pounds of food.
The food will be distributed by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to help feed citizens most in need.
“ILS is a great company, employing many generous individuals. When I first brought the idea to the Community Relations Committee, ILS was enthusiastic about participating”, said Maurine Brown, Research Assistant III for ILS. “In these extremely tough times many ILS employees graciously donated to this worthy cause. Yes, we participated in breaking a world record, which is great. But the cause is what matters: we contributed food that will feed children in our community that might otherwise have gone hungry. I am honored to work for ILS.”
